Duffy's Love Shack, St. John

Did I just shipwreck on a paradise tropical island, or am I still at Duffy's Love Shack? For club hoppers who start to feel the good dance vibrations at Duffy's Love Shack on the beautiful Island of St. John, it isn't surprising if this question comes up more than once. That's because the happy desert island motif is decidedly obvious - a real palm tree grows through the thatched roof above the bar. Along with the great scenery, the crowd that comes to this bar/dance club is made up of some of hippest and most beautiful locals and vacationers on the island.

The Scene

Along with the tree growing through the roof, Duffy's love shack sports decks - both indoor and outdoor - where patrons can kick back and sip on a selection of delectable frozen drinks before hitting the floor when the dance gets hot. Social butterflies can hop back and forth in style via the rope bridge contraptions that connect the two patios. In fact, you may find that you definitely want to become this social butterfly due to the fact that most of the patrons here are friendly island locals. A great place to meet people, Duffy's Love shack also features some of the best dance music on the island. Primarily bumping and grinding to hip hop beats, the club is not exactly ideal for the whole family. In fact, many in the past have recommended making sure that ones boyfriend or girlfriend does not get whisked away by these elegantly aggressive local Caribbean dancers.

The Food

Even at this dance-oriented - although casual, friendly and down home - club, the food is actually really good. That's right, club guests can peruse the bamboo and parchment styled menu to find a selection of classic Caribbean spices and flavors that are used to transform classic all American favorites into extraordinarily delicious meals that take your taste buds to a whole new level.

This means that you can get juicy, flavorful ribs that are not only cooked to perfection but slathered in a barbeque sauce made from honey that is absolutely to die for! But even the honey sauce is put to the side by the unbelievable pineapple coconut glaze that is drizzled over a sumptuous chicken or a juicy steak.

From 10 o'clock on the kitchen is still open but the menu feature mainly just sandwiches and hamburgers.

The Drinks

Watch out for that man behind the bar! That's because Duffy's Love Shack is known for serving the stiffest rum concoctions on the island of St. John. Indeed, the drinks are strong, and this helps to get the dance floor bumping - that's why tourists and locals alike can't help showing up here to strut their stuff.

Come earlier for the happy hour to get great deals on drinks. For only a dollar happy island vacationers like you can throw back a tall Red Stripe and even munch on a hot dog - for only another dollar more. Enjoy many other beers and as the night progresses you may wish to begin sampling the delicious range of cocktails and frozen drinks.
