Marriage License & Requirements

If your dream has always been to be married on a tropical island, than here is your chance. The Virgin Islands have some wonderful packages to fulfill your every fantasy.

The marriage License and requirements for any of the Virgin Islands, United States are the same. You will need the marriage application and license forms.

The information that you will need include your both bride and groom include:

  • Full name and age at last birthday
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Nationality and place of usual residence
  • The name of parents (present and maiden)
  • Previous marital status (widowed, divorced or annulled)

After you have completed the form you will need to return the form to the Territorial Court. But, before you submit your documents they will need to be notarized by a notary public.

If you have been divorced, you will also have to send with your application a certified copy of the divorce decree.

You should also write a letter and send along with the above documents with information regarding when you will be arriving to the island of your choice, how long you will stay, and the day you would like for the marriage ceremony (if you desire a judge to perform the ceremony).

The Territorial Court, after they receive your notarized application will post if for public inspection and there is an eight day waiting period. Now, before your marriage license will be issued the bride and groom are required to appear before the Clerk of the Court to be questioned under oath. You do not have to have a physical exam or blood test.

The marriage application fee is $50.00 and if you are paying in person you will need to pay with either a certified check, money order, or cash.

The court is open 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday except of course holidays. On Saturday the court is open from 10am until noon, unless it is Carnival Saturday, then the court is closed.

If you need to make arraignments to visit the court on a Saturday or Sunday you can also have pre-arraignments made for $150.00 per couple.

You now know everything that you must have in order to have the wedding of a lifetime. You can contact some of the island wedding coordinators for more information and for help with planning and having everything ready when you arrive.
