The actual territory of Cinnamon Bay was a thriving village about one thousand years ago and the exact fate of the ancient American indigenous inhabitants remains as a mystery being considered as uninhabited when Columbus and the Spanish invaders arrived after 1493 and totally abandoned for the next 200 years in which the crumbling remains of the village were covered over by the natural tropical vegetation and the windblown beach sand.

At the present, a temporary museum has been opened near the excavation with the exhibit of decorative ceramic pottery, animal bones, seashells, jewelry-like adornments and tools made of shell and stone recovered by the archaeologists since 1992 when the formal investigations started.

Cinnamon Bay vacation atmosphere is rounded with most life conveniences at hand such as picnic table, barbecue grills, an on premise restaurant, public phones, message center, safe deposit boxes, lockers, restrooms, changing rooms and showers located on the grounds. Also kayaks, beach floats, sailboats and windsurfers are available for rental at Cinnamon Bay Water sports, at the end of the road from beach to the west where it is possible to take windsurfing and sailing lessons as well.

Depending on the destinations, taxis from the St. Thomas Airport are available or the public ferry service from Red Hook running hourly until midnight or from Charlotte Amalie, both arriving to Cruz Bay in St. John Island where visitors can easily take the 15-minute taxi ride to Cinnamon Bay Campground.

In addition, to consider Cinnamon Bay your next travel destination, a wide list of weekly activities are run throughout the year and even during the Winter Season although booking in advance is essential to attend most of them.
