Fish Trap, St. John

St. John USVI Restaurants

For all of your seafood cravings, stop in at the Fish Trap and satisfy your hunger with the most delicious selection of fish delights and old fashioned favorites from the grill. Eat while enjoying the hustle and bustle - in a slow motion, St. John's version - of the tropical island culture. Indeed, the milieu of locals and visitors alike brings about a relaxing ambience to this open air restaurant where you can enjoy yourself while eating great food.

The Place

With a wide selection of some of the freshest seafood on the island, the Fish Trap is located a short walk up from the dock where ferries land, right next door to the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Its covered terrace lets in the warm sea breezes that the Caribbean is famous for, giving you that wonderful island sensation while you sink your teeth into some of the finest prepared seafood you could hope for. The chef Aaron Willis is entertaining as well as skilled in all of the best spices from East India. One mark of his skill is that while he comes with the prestigious background of a New York academy of culinary arts, he spices up all of his excellent meals with a taste of the topics in a way that it seems only a native could. Needless to say, after taking part in this casual yet sumptuous dining experience, you will have had a lunch or dinner to remember. Indeed, the scene is lively and full of island people as well as tourists and the environment is festive all year round.

The Menu

Come to the Fish Trap to take part in and enjoy some of the best prepared low price seafood on the island. Sit down at the covered terrace to browse through a menu full of sumptuous lunch and dinner items including a long list of seafood specialties. Don't miss out on the shark, wahoo, snapper or mahi mahi, depending on whatever the nets are bringing in. With a selection of at least six specials - usually including one of the above mentioned fish - you will be treated to a savory and juicy seafood meal. For starters, try the famous seafood chowder made with white wine, Eastern spices, paprika and a creamy base.

For the meal, order the tuna on the menu; it comes as a grilled plate and is treated with wasabi sauce, a hot Asian horseradish, and is not for the feint of heart. If available, take a stab at the swordfish and enjoy one of the best lemongrass seasonings that you could ever imagine.

But in addition to the excellent seafood offered here, visitors like you can enjoy other more traditional menu items such as vast selection of stakes - sirloin, London broil, porterhouse, to name a few - as well as tender cutlets of chicken and zesty Italian style pastas. Not only that, but if you are struck with a hankering for a tasty American meal you can even chomp down on a good old hamburger.
