Stone Terrace, St. John

St. John USVI Restaurants

Be sure to make reservations before eating out at the Stone Terrace - when it comes to seafood and other sumptuous dishes, this place is a catch! Sit down at the outside bar for some cocktails before dinner and watch the beautifully clad people of the island walk below your impressive stone terrace. It's the excellent stone terrace that this fine dining restaurant gets its name from. Positioned perfectly on the Cruz Bay waterfront, you will dine in style at one of the most elegant and popular locations for cuisine on St. John.

The Menu

Enjoy the freshest of ingredients including fine poultry, beef and, of course, the ubiquitous seafood specialties. Here, however, it's really done right and, although a bit of splash, it's well worth visiting the Stone Terrace restaurant. For starters, try an appetizer like the scallop plate. Pulling from the sumptuousness of Asian cuisine, the scallops will be served on a bed of noodles, making this a dish to die for. But so far we haven't even gotten to my personal favorite, the jerked chicken. Mmm, delicious! One of the best dishes here is the black tuna served on baby greens. Alternatively, the crab cakes slathered in hicama, crushed garlic, lime juice, and olive oil sauce and a slaw made from the freshest tropical island mangos is sure to scintillate even the most cultured diners. The Stone Terrace also offers a wonderful selection of crepes, one of the most notable being the pumpkin on amply stuffed with goat cheese. However, no one should leave the island of St. John without trying the shrimp bisque, the delectable duck confit grilled to perfection or the tenderloin of pork worked in with rich tropical molasses.

The Drinks

Choose from a variety of beers or cocktails while at the authentic outdoor bar of the Stone Terrace. Sit down to a gourmet meal end enjoy the fine selection offered by their superb wine list.

The Restaurant

Both inside and out, Stone Terrace oozes with the ambience of fine dining but is surprisingly unpretentious. One of the uniquely charming aspects of this restaurant is that fact that it is located on the upper level of an old, stone building from which it gets its name "Stone Terrace." Inside provides a bit of respite from the heat, with both a cooler temperature as well as walls painted with light, happy tropical colors.

The congeniality of the staff is probably due in part to the friendly atmosphere that pervades everything on St. John, making Stone Terrace a waterfront venue of the highest class although set in the most relaxing atmosphere imaginable. While eating inside or sitting at the outdoor bar, take in the exceptional views of the Cruz Bay and the ferry docks that lead out to the island of St. Thomas. Muse over the maudlin beauty of a Cruz Bay sunset or enjoy an exquisite lunch to the background of the water - rich Caribbean blue - and the bright tropical colors of the clothing that the island locals like to sport.
