Cinnamon Bay
Day 3: Tuesday December 5
Time to start hittin the beaches
We manage to get up an hour earlier today – don’t want to sleep through your vacation, right? Breakfast consists of bagels and the fresh fruit Heidi bought yesterday. Some coffee and tea. Rub sleep from our eyes out on the balcony.
Time to start going to those world-famous beaches you hear about. Today’s destination is one of our top picks – Cinnamon Bay. We pick up the taxi in Cruz Bay and it’s a fun 10-minute ride over some roller-coaster roads. It’s crazy and a good reason to let the locals do the driving.

Married on Cinnamon 2005
Cinnamon will always have a special place with us as we were married here in 2005. It’s got everything you could want – long and sandy beach, great snorkeling around Cinnamon Cay, a little campground store, plus a place to get lunch! A perfect place to spend the day.
Cinnamon Cay
Around 3:30 pm the sun begins to dip behind the hills, so we decide to gather our gear and head back to Gallows as it always is a bit warmer and the sun stays with you. Taxi to Cruz Bay. Good to get a drink (I chose a Heineken) at the restaurant at Cinnamon as the taxi drivers often make you wait a few minutes until their truck fills up with passengers. Gotta make use of that idle time!
Back in town, we do the obligatory stop at Joe’s for a round of to-go’s (are you sensing a pattern here?) and make the short trek to Gallows Point Resort. Once at Gallows, Heidi finds a nice spot on the decks for her yoga, while I sit down to relax and watch another amazing St. John sunset.
Beautiful St. John Sunset
Once the sun sets, we shower and then I prepare a dirty martini for my girl (with Vodka from EveryTing) after grabbing my ‘getting ready’ drink from Jax.
We go into town and decide to check out LaTapa as it’s one of our favorites. It’s very busy, but Craig assures us we can have ‘our’ table outside in a short time. We amble up to the bar inside and order martinis while we wait. Oddly, we see another couple take our table. Hmmm… what’s up with that? Soon thereafter, a fresh round of drinks appear “on someone at La Tapa” we’re told. Hmm… we sip and wait. Craig rushes over and apologizes profusely for the delay and had forgotten someone had reserved our table over an hour ago. It was he who sent the drinks. Nice guy. It’s pretty hectic here so we decide to thank Craig for our drinks and explore other dining venues.
Well, we can’t go to Happy Feet every night, right? After a short stroll, we figure why not try someplace new. Our only requirements are that they have yummy apps and outside dining. Stone Terrace fits the bill quite nicely. It’s just across the street from Beach Bar in Cruz Bay. We go upstairs and they find us a perfect table on the corner over looking the bay. Sweet. The Tuna Tartar, Escargot, and salad are excellent as is the drinks and service. A good find. End’s up that the bartender Lindsay trained with Heidi’s yoga mentor (Sherri from Boston) – small world!
Stone Terrace in Cruz Bay
After enjoying dinner at Stone Terrace we saunter over to the Beach Bar for our nightcaps. We run into Salty Guy from Quiet Mon and buy him a cold beer. He is happy. It’s all good in da islands. We head back to Gallows and watch the stars to close out the day.
